What is Proyecto Alicia?

The Task

After the October 2024 floods in Valencia, over 5,000 homes were damaged or destroyed. While emergency services focused on rescue and cleanup, thousands of families were left without furniture, appliances, or basic household items, unable to rebuild a functional living space.

The Approach

We built Proyecto Alicia, a simple donation Webapp connecting those who lost everything with people ready to help. Fast, accessible, and community-driven, it made furnishing a home as easy as a few clicks.

Proyecto Alicia is a solidarity-based space where you can donate furniture, household items, and belongings to those who have suffered devastation in their homes.

Problem

I was ready to help, but the form asked for too much. In that moment, I didn’t have time to fill out a bunch of fields, I just wanted to donate quickly.

Development Process

Day 1-2

The team identified key features and user needs. Focus was on designing a straightforward interface that would facilitate quick, easy posting and searching of donations.

Day 3

The first drafts of wireframes and flows were handed off to developers to begin building the web app.

Day 4–5

Continued refining the UI while the developers integrated features. The team launched an Instagram account to support awareness and engagement.

Day 6

Final tweaks were made to ensure smooth functionality before launch. Core features were tested internally and minor bugs resolved.

Day 7

The platform went live. Within the first week, it reached 150,000 visits per day, 600 donations were published, and 200 reached recipients.

Problem

I donated my furniture, but I don’t have an account, how do I take my post down? It’s still showing up, and people keep messaging me about it.

Solution

We designed a minimal, stress-free form that asked only for the essentials. By removing friction and avoiding overwhelm, users could offer or request help in just a few simple steps, making it easy to take action when it mattered most.

It made me feel deeply connected to the community and showed me the emotional weight that even small design decisions can carry.
